Green Peas Pulao

Green Peas Pulao is very easy to prepare My vegetarian friends always complain that I do not have veg dishes on my blog so I thought I would post some veg recipes on my blog. I made this Green Peas Pulao couple of weeks back for lunch. the result was amazing.

This recipe involves three steps. first preparing the gravy. second preparing the rice and third mixing both together. I had made the rice one day ahead. It is always better to make the rice one day ahead when you are making Pulao or Fried rice that way all the grains will be separated. We had the leftover gravy for dinner with some chapathi. I have used dried green peas but if u have fresh green Peas then you can use that.

Ingredients
For grinding
  • Cinnamon 1 inch piece
  • Cloves 2
  • Star anise 2
  • Elaichi 3
  • Kashmiri red chillies 10 to 15
  • Onion roughly chopped 2 nos
  • Tomato chopped 2 nos
  • Capsicum chopped 1 no
  • Melon seeds or Magaz 4 tbsp
  • Cashews 4 tbsp
  • Garam masala powder ½ tsp
For gravy
  • Onion finely chopped 1 no
  • Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp
  • Curd 4 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder ½ tsp
  • Coriander powder 1 tsp
  • Chilli powder 1 tsp
  • Tomato ketchup 2 tbsp
  • Kasoori methi powder 1 tsp
  • salt to taste
  • ghee 2 tbsp
  • oil 1 tbsp
  • Coriander leaves chopped
  • Cooked green peas 1 cup
  • Cooked Basmathi rice 4 cups
Instructions
  1. Heat oil in a pan.
  2. Add cinnamon,cloves, star anise, elaichi fry for a 30 secs.
  3. Add in the kashmiri red chillies and fry for a min.
  4. In goes the sliced onion and fry till pale.
  5. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook till it turns soft.
  6. Add the chopped capsicum and fry for another minute.
  7. Finally add the melon seeds,chopped cashews and garam masala powder and fry for 30 secs.
  8. Cool and grind to a paste.
  9. Heat ghee and oil in a kadai.
  10. Add the sliced onion and fry till light brown colour.
  11. Next add the ginger garlic paste and fry till raw smell goes.
  12. In goes the turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and fry for 2 mins.
  13. Add in curd and mix well.
  14. Add the ground paste, Tomato ketchup, salt to taste, Kasoori methi powder and mix well.
  15. Add the cooked green peas and bring it to boil.
  16. Add the chopped coriander leaves.
  17. Transfer half of this to a seperate bowl.
  18. To the remaining gravy add the cooked basmati rice and toss well.
  19. Serve hot with some raita.
Notes
Add the gravy according to your taste. I have added about 2 cups for 4 cups of rice.

Add the chopped capsicum and fry for another minute.

Finally add the melon seeds, chopped cashews and garam masala powder and fry for 30 secs.

Cool and grind to a paste. (remove the stems of the Red Chillies)

Heat ghee and oil in a Pan.

Add the sliced onion and fry till light brown colour.

In goes the turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and fry for 2 mins.

Add in curd and mix well.

Add the ground paste,

Kasoori methi powder and mix well.

Add the cooked green peas and bring it to boil.

Add the chopped coriander leaves.

Transfer half of this to a separate bowl.

To the remaining gravy add the cooked basmati rice.
